I was sub-contracted out for this project to both design and build the HTML templates. A priority for this site was to ensure that it complied to a AA accessibility standard and was optimised for small screens. This project also lead me on to design the Welsh Assembly and the Scottish Parliament websites.
Designing and building this platform to meet AA accessibility standards and prioritizing a mobile-first approach presented me with several intricate challenges. Consistency needed to be ensured for smaller screens to maintain a seamless and consistent user experience across devices. Furthermore, organizing and presenting a large quantity of video content in an easily navigable and user-friendly manner was essential, requiring careful consideration to allow users to access specific content efficiently while upholding a high-quality browsing experience.
I methodically planned the site with the client, achieving AA standards compliance by adding accessibility features like transcripts, captions, and audio descriptions. They adopted a mobile-first approach, ensuring a seamless user experience on smaller screens, and organized the vast video content with a user-friendly interface, allowing efficient search and filtering. Usability testing and continuous user feedback were integral to refining the platform, ultimately meeting the project's objectives.
